Another day at the Cabin

Okay, so we like to spend time at the cabin, who wouldn't.

It's the funny noises when we read books that keeps their attention.

Just a little artist.

Painting partners.

A good time at the river.

Spashing in the cold river

Birthday wish

Jennifer turned 26 this year on July 11 and she wanted to go to the cabin for a couple of days to celebrate. We packed up her kids (her two dogs) and headed to the cabin for the weekend. We took her dogs to the lake to let them splash around and it was nice to be out of the valley.

I don't know what the idea is behind the life jackets. I thought dogs do pretty good in the water. Maybe it's because all they can do is the "doggie paddle".

Daisy can run circles around Harley on any given day but throw them in the water and Daisy falls behind, way behind.

Daisy has figured out that Harley can do all the work to retrieve the toy and bring it back then Daisy takes it away and gets all the credit.

It sure was a beautiful day at the lake.

Aladdin

Our niece Alexis (Darven & Crystals daughter) had her annual dance recital at Kingsbury Hall. She is dancing with the Utah Dance Center and is almost 5 years old and danced as a Genie. Their performance was titled "Aladdin" and was choreographed very well. I wouldn't be surprise if there were 150 girls in the performance ranging in age 3-20+ with 2 dozen different dances and costumes, quite the production. We've been to many of these types of programs and everyone gets a kick out of the little kids. The older kids look like dancers in their costumes, but there is something about little kids with rosie cheeks, big elephant ears (or Genie outfits) and toto's stumbling over each other in zero rhythm as they look into the audience to see mommy and daddy, they always seem to be a hit.

Congratulations Alexis

We made it to the Cabin

It's been a long time coming but we finally made it to the cabin (first time this year as a family). It rained and was cool weather although it doesn't matter when one is away from the city.

Jesse with Camille, just arriving

The Deer haven't shed their winter coat.

Many of the beautiful Flowers.

Jenny and Connie ready for breakfast.

The Fire kept us warm outside and most enjoyed smores.

Nice sunsets when the sky was clear.

I've been by these pines a hundred times but this time it caught my eye.

That uncertain door that leads ahead

It's been some time since i've posted anything on our blog and what i'm about to post comes with a heavy heart and condolences. Jesse's girlfriend Camille and her family lost their brother, 12 year old Kayden in a tragic accident on May 28, 2008. This accident has hit close to home for us for several reasons as we have been blessed to know Kayden and other members of their family in the last year. Life gives us many challenges and opportunities and the one thing that is certain is that we are born and we must die, but death, that uncertain door that leads ahead has been for man a awesome mystery. Life's greatest test comes with the death of a loved one and without faith in the immortality of the soul the separation at death looms forever comfortless. For reasons unknown to all, Heavenly Father has called Kayden home. Another reason this incident has hit close to home for us is that outside of Kaydens immediate family, Jesse was one of his most trusted friends and a great example and just a week before Jesse purchased a baseball mitt so he could play catch with Kayden and the day of this tragic accident they were riding bikes together and as Jesse turned to look at him he was struck by a vehicle. Jesse cradled him in his arms to give any comfort he could but later that day Kayden passed away. So many tears were shed, so much emptiness and loss. The strength comes from knowing that after death as our mortal body lies in the earth, our spirit self continues to live, being eternal, and our memory of this life will remain with us, and the knowledge of our life before birth will be restored. Through death we emerge into a place of reawakening and find loved ones who have passed on before, waiting to welcome us. Since Kayden's passing, his family has had many spiritual experiences, and for the Knight family, we have the assurance that we are here not by accident or chance but as a part of a glorious everlasting plan and a knowledge that God our Eternal Father guides the affairs of his children.

Happy Mother's Day

We might seem obsessed with our back yard but it is our sanctuary and a place away from the rest of the world, it is not visible from any of the adjoining properties and it is very peaceful. We have added landscaping lights and a bunch of flowers and bushes for Connie & Mother's day.

We have plenty of lighting and in some cases to much, but the beauty is that we can turn it off.

There is something very peaceful about relaxing and listening to the fountain in the pond.

My sister Nikki came to visit from North Carolina and will be here for a couple of weeks so we had Mom, Dad & Nikki come to dinner for Mother's day.

Mom sipping on her Mountain Dew.

A few portraits by the pond.

It's not often we can get a picture with the family.

Here is our small family in a natural pose.
